Potty Training

Why is it so hard to potty train some children? For years I heard the myth that girls are easier to potty train than boys. Oh really? REALLY???

My 3 1/2 year old daughter is touch and go at best. Yesterday morning she pleasantly surprised my husband by going to the bathroom to poop all by herself. No coaching, nothing. She had to go so she went. Last night when I was home, however, she pooped in her pullup and then made a huge mess in the bathroom for me to clean up! I guess it is an improvement that she was at least in the bathroom. What she has done in the past is pull down her pull-up (yes I get the irony), and poop wherever she was at the time. You know, her bedroom, the living room, wherever.

So I am about to concede defeat. After all, I don't think that any future employers will ask on the application when she was potty trained. It probably won't be on a college application either. Although I can imagine the essay. Compare and contrast the effects of late potty training on the working mom who has two other children to raise as well, with the severe psychologicals scars left on the child. I may as well give up now!

It's not what happens to you that determines how far you will go in life; it is how you handle what happens to you.
