Our trip to Disneyworld - Day One: traveling

Our trip started out today the usual way. We got up way too early in the morning and went to the airport. My dad actually drove us to the airport so we could save money on parking. Now before you feel too bad for him because he took us to the airport at six in the morning, this is the same man who woke me up early everyday while I was growing up. All the same it was very nice of him to be willing to drive us. Because we fly standby, we got to the airport way too early and waited. The flights we were trying for were wide open, so the agent at the ticket counter checked us all the way through, and most importantly checked our bags through. For those of you who say I am so lucky because I work for an airline because I can fly for free, it does come at a price. There is always the uncertainty of getting on each flight. We can be bumped off at a moments notice and then we are on our own to get to our destination.

Anyway, we got on our flights and things were great. Well great to a point. Janica learned that she is allergic to airplanes. They make her ears hurt. I tried to point out that they only hurt when the plane is landing and that she could use "allergy medicine," which would be gum, but she wouldn't believe me. So just so you know, Janica suffers from a horrible allergy to planes. She really suffered from her allergy too because we took off and landed three times. Oh yes, that is the other joy of flying standby. I didn't want to take any chances that we would be bumped off any flight because of any hurricanes or tropical storms, so we flew a little out of our way, like to Long Beach CA, in order to get to Orlando. Poor Janica. Her allergies really acted up for her. Because she didn't think that gum would help, she wouldn't chew any, so she got the full effect of her ears popping. I really felt bad for her, and all the people sitting around us. Otherwise, it was about eight hours of flying and we spent that time sleeping and watching TV. Not too exciting, thank goodness.

We arrived at Orlando and one of the first things all of us noticed was the humidity. I know people talk about heavy air and I could see what they meant. It was so thick! It took a little bit to get used to breathing. We rented an SUV to have a little more flexibility and went to our Residence Inn to check in. After we put our bags in the hotel, we went to Popeye's for dinner. There isn't one in Utah, and Jason and his family kind of have a tradition of going to one if there is one, so Popeye's it was. It was really good. It was fun having food from another part of the country and trying something new. I think the only other time I have been to Popeye's was when we went to Hawaii seven years ago, so it is a fun 'trip' thing. Then back to the hotel with an early wake-up call to prepare ourselves for the next day. Disneyworld, here we come!!
