Because Tegan is turning 8 this year, we are trying to help him prepare for his baptism by learning scriptues. I remember learning James 1:5 as a little girl, so that was the scripture we started with. It went very well. In less than a month, all three children could recite it and only Kierra needed prompting. I couldn't decide on which scripture to learn next, so after much thought and consideration, we are learning the Articles of Faith. Tonight at FHE, I pulled out a copy of the first Article of Faith and we began to recite it together.
Well I hadn't realized how certain words and phrases are connected in Kierra's mind. To help her learn the article of faith, I said a phrase, and then she repeated it. It went something like this:
Shanda: We believe in God,
Kierra: We believe in God,
Shanda: the Eternal Father,
Kierra: the Eternal Father,
Shanda: and in His son,
Kierra: and in His son,
Shanda: Jesus Christ,
Kierra: Amen!
Shanda (laughing): and in the Holy Ghost.
Kierra (not realizing anything is amiss): and in the Holy Ghost.
We recited it several times and it was the same each time. So to Kierra, amen always comes after Jesus Christ. Fair enough. At least it means she is familiar with praying, right? If you think about it, there are certainly worse things for a child to recite without thinking...
