I wasn't sure if power out meant no school so I tried calling Tegan's school, but they don't answer their phones before 8:45, which is when Tegan needs to be at school, so that was no help! I decided to take him to school at the regular time, with the understanding that if there was no school, I could take him back home. Well there was school, but after I dropped off Tegan, I didn't want to go back to our cold, powerless house, so I went over to my parents. A drive that normally takes about 10 minutes, took triple that time because of the snow and the traffic lights not working. However, it was all worth it when I got there because my Mom was making eggs! Delicious! We had a nice visit, enjoyed our breakfast, and then it was time to go home.
Fortunately for me, when I got home the power was back on. I was able to get going on the laundry and dishes and even better, turn the tv on for the girls so I could get my work done! So had my day completely turned around for the better at this point? Of course not! Didn't you just read that I was doing laundry and dishes? That combination never makes for a good day for me. Ever.
Later in the afternoon, once the snow in the street had melted, I headed outside with the girls to shovel the driveway and sidewalks. Let me tell you a little something about the snow that fell yesterday: It was full of water and really heavy! Where I had hoped to have the driveway cleared off by the time Jason got home, I was only about 1/2 way done. Of course once he got home, Jason helped me finish shoveling, which was a good thing.
So here is where the day really got good. Jason built up a pile of snow for the kids to slide down/play on. It brought back fun memories from winters when I was little and of course offered fantastic photo opportunities!
The day just got better from there, as we went out to Olive Garden for dinner to celebrate my brother Carson's 16th birthday. So for a day that started out with me not even wanting to get out of bed, it ended really well! I guess that needs to be a lesson to me, to always be willing to get out of the bed in the morning. Well, we'll have to see about that.

Oh no! I have to do laundry today!
We had a pretty bad ice storm here a couple weeks ago. Many people were without power for several days, and some people in the rural areas will probably be without power for a few months. We were lucky. Our power went off for just a few minutes, so we managed just fine, other than a little cabin fever.
Snow sounds fun... We just have fog.
Well, as Joseph B. Wirthlin said in his last conference talk - "Come what may and love it!"(I'm teaching the "Teaching for Our Time" classes in RS now). Whatever happens in the day, as long as you keep a smile on your face, that's all that matters!
Comment from Jason's sister Melanie: yay for snow days! nice snow pants girls! I'm glad you were able to use them.
Thanks for sharing!
